Things To Consider When Getting A Conservatory Installed

It’s an exciting thing for any family when they reach the decision to extend their property with a new conservatory.

Just try not to rush things through if you’re looking to do the same, as there’s some pre-planning to be sorted first.

Bon Accord Glass has compiled a checklist for you to follow:

Positioning

Where your conservatory stands will come down to the layout of the building, but also when and how you want to use it.

A north-facing conservatory receives less direct sunlight, which is a bonus in summer, whereas if it faces south, you’re likely to get almost year-round use out of it.

Accessories

Choosing a conservatory style is just one consideration. The design needs to be thoroughly accessorised.

That means selecting a colour, settling on a roof type, picking some glass, thinking about lighting, and exploring hardware options. You may also want an opening into your garden from the conservatory, which a bi-folding, French or patio door can provide.

Planning Permission

No conservatory should be built until it has been checked whether it needs planning permission first.

If classed as a ‘Permitted Development’ you can proceed without it, but your local authority should be spoken to for official confirmation either way.

Functionality

Conservatories get used in all sorts of ways.

Ever since the pandemic, there has been a huge jump in the number of people having them turned into home offices so that they have a permanent base to work from when outside of their traditional office.

Other than that, it could be where you dine in the evenings, work out after work, or let the kids play with their favourite toys and games.

Bon Accord Glass will help you with all of this, if you want us to.
