Will Triple Glazing Keep Noise Out Of Your House?

There’s not so much of it at the moment because of the current lockdown situation, but Scotland can be a noisy place, especially for those living in our busiest villages, towns and cities.

Where you don’t want to hear lots of it is in your home, but some homeowners aren’t so lucky and regularly get disturbed by external noise, to the point where it can have an effect on their mental health.

Relocating out into the country just isn’t an option for most. What can be done instead is some soundproofing, which may include the installation of triple glazed windows and doors, widely believed to be a soundproofing solution.

They can be, but only if they’re built in the correct fashion.

The choice of glass is one of the key elements and it needs to be a particularly thick glass. But the three glass panes aren’t to be of equal thickness – they each need to have a different thickness from one another. Between the glass panes should also be a large gap of air.

So that any replacement triple glazed windows comply with building regulations, you will be required to include trickle vents in them if your existing windows and doors have them. If they don’t have trickle vents, they can be omitted, which is useful as noise can enter through this common window feature.

Putting a well-recognised and well-qualified window and door installer, like Bon Accord Glass, will see that the windows and doors are fitted to the industry standard. There won’t be the slightest hint of any gaps, with proper sealing around the frames.

Your roof, walls and floors could also be at fault for allowing noise to spill into your private living quarters. If so, action will need to be taken with them too to end your noise-related woes as the windows can’t solve the problem all on their own.
