How To Organise Your Conservatory For The Hot Summer Months

It’s been a promising start to the summer, with most parts of Scotland experiencing year-high temperatures, which makes being at home so much that little bit easier.

Solid Roof Edwardian Conservatory

There hasn’t been a total absence of rain though and it’s inevitable that we’ll see more showers through the summer. When those showers come, your conservatory will make for a nice shelter. But that idea is a complete non-starter if your conservatory gets unbearably hot in warm weather.

If within a few minutes of entering your conservatory in summer you get a sweat on, our first piece of advice would be to look up, as the roof will be partly to blame.

You need a solid roof up there, a product that can be custom-made to fit on top of the structure.

Manufactured using lifelike insulating tiles or slates, the addition of a solid roof will transform the fortunes of the conservatory and make it a comfortable space in all weathers.

Sometimes, new windows and doors will be necessary to support the weight of a solid roof. If they’re needed for your solid roof installation, choose windows and doors with a high energy efficiency rating.

While changing doors, why not also incorporate French, patio or bi-folding doors into the conservatory. Then you can make an easy exit to the garden when the sun’s out and also use the door opening to let some fresh air into the interior.

So that any showers put less of a dampener on your hopes of using the garden, bring some greenery into the conservatory with the installation of a few plants.

Don’t know the first thing about plants for conservatories? Gardeners’ World Magazine do and last year put together a Top 10 list of the best conservatory plants:

  • Mandevilla
  • Bougainvillea
  • Hoya
  • Plumbago
  • Sarracenia
  • Lapageria
  • Strelitzia
  • Hymenocallis
  • Aristolochia
  • Cacti and succulents

As you put your plants out, remove any thick textures that you may have on your furniture, such as heavy throws, and replace them with thinner, lighter coverings, possibly floral-patterned, if you want to give off a real summer feel.

Bon Accord Glass will soon be offering Private Appointments to customers. But for now, Virtual Appointments remain available if we can in any way help you get your conservatory summer-ready.
