What are the additional benefits? And what if you can’t install double glazing in your home? At Bon Accord Glass, we ensure our customers have all the information so they can make informed decisions and purchases. In this guide we look at these questions and more to provide you with the answers.

What are the benefits of energy efficient glazing?

Aside from the main energy saving benefits, efficient double glazing can offer a multitude of additional benefits to home owners including; a reduction in outside noise, more consistent heating with fewer areas of your home prone to abnormal ranges in temperatures and lower window condensation.

How does glazing work?

The basic premise of double or triple glazing and where most of its insulating properties come from is the gap between the two panes of glass within the unit which acts as a barrier between the outside and the inside of the home keeping the heat in. This gap is filled with a gas such as argon, xenon or krypton. If you’ve ever worn a wetsuit you’ll know the same principle is being applied when the thin layer of water between the suit and the body heats up and thus keeps you warm.

How much could I save on my energy bills?

That’s a tricky question to answer and much will depend on your current usage, type of property and the quality of installation and units being used. That said there are approximate figures available which we have provided below. As standard, Bon Accord Glass supplies and installs A+ rated windows so the figures below correspond to this level of glazing.

What if I can’t install double glazing?

There are various reasons you may not be able to install double glazing, living in a listed building being the most common. Fear not though, all is not lost and there are options open to you with the main one being secondary glazing. If you’re not familiar with the term you’d be forgiven for thinking that there is no difference between double and secondary however there are some significant ones. Essentially secondary glazing is exactly that – a secondary pane of glass fitted on the inside of the home, with the aim of providing as much of the benefit of full double glazing as is possible.

So, there you have it, your definitive guide to energy efficient glazing.
