3 Things To Think About When Buying A Home Extension
If you live with a big family in a compact home, you’re likely to get to a stage when you have no other choice but to either extend, if you can, or move somewhere bigger.
Very obviously, it will cost you far more to relocate, and can be far more stressful too. This makes extending all the more enticing.
It’s usually a simple and hassle-free process, or at least it will be if you plan a home extension project properly.

Planning Permission / Building Regulations
Under no circumstances should you ever get a home extension built until it has been ascertained if it needs planning permission.
Permitted Development Rights apply to some single-storey extensions, as they meet key limits and conditions, which enables you to install them without the need for planning permission.
Please don’t confuse planning permission for building regulations approval – they’re not the same thing. Talk to your local planning department to get clarification of what you do or do not need.
What budget do you have?
How much money are you able to put towards a home extension? That should be one of the first things you work out.
Have a good look at your finances and see what you can afford. Should you need help to fund the cost, ask the installer involved if they provide any forms of finance.
When you know your budget, let the designers know so that they can create something that meets the price you’re prepared to pay. Don’t let them go over budget!
Is it going to add good value?
You want an extension to add space and also add value as it’s going to cost you a good amount of money to buy one.
Exactly how much value it will inject into your property depends on a number of things, including the size of the extension, the area you live in, and how well-built the extension is.
The installer should be able to give some indication of what it could add based on similar extensions that they have supplied in the past, so quiz them before they do anything.
