Please don’t feel intimidated at the prospect of buying a sunroom as Bon Accord Glass has vast experience of supplying and building the most sensational sunrooms. Design – Have a good think about how your dream sunroom would look and then tell us what you picture in your mind. It may help if you take some measurements and a picture of where you envisage the sunroom being fitted. We can then take to our computer and bring it to life on screen – all done completely FREE of charge of course!

Survey – We have some hugely experienced surveyors. One of them will visit your property to take further measurements and also account for the inclusion of any French doors, patio doors, bi-folding doors and opening windows in the sunroom design. If it transpires that planning permission will be needed, we will speak to the planning department at your local authority.

Installation – When we say we will take care of everything, we really mean it. Rely on Bon Accord Glass to dig the foundations, form the base, build a dwarf wall, construct the framework and fit the glass. We work to a strict time-scale and you will be kept informed throughout.

Finishing – Any finishing touches will also be attended to. We are more than qualified to handle any plastering, flooring and electrical requirements. We can even fit a ceiling fan if you want one. Before leaving, we clean up properly and then hand you a questionnaire to check that you are completely happy with everything that’s been done.

Our installers are experienced enough to know how to handle aluminium, timber and UPVC frameworks with immense care and we can construct a roofing system that promises enduring thermal efficiency. The roof will consist of lightweight tiles or slates, whichever of the two works best. Things will then be handed over to our contractors who will take responsibility for sorting the electrical and plumbing fixtures. We are also capable of installing a home entertainment system if you plan on utilising the sunroom as a spot for lounging and dining.

All the walls will have a flawless appearance as we apply a traditional skim finish to make them perfectly smooth. The rest of the internal works will be completed by our installers. For any other finishing touches, just speak to our team.

You don't require planning permission if the extension meets certain rules. This is called 'permitted development'.

If your extension will have one storey, you don't need planning permission as long as:

• it's located at the back of the house
• it doesn't go back further than 3 metres if it's a terraced house, or 4 metres if it isn't
• the height of the eaves (where the wall meets the roof) is no higher than 3 metres
• it's not higher than 4 metres, including sloping roofs
• it doesn't cover more floor area than your house does
• it doesn't take up half the 'curtilage' – the grounds behind your home
• it isn't within a conservation area

Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas

When making alterations in a Listed Building it is highly likely that you will require Listed Building Consent first. Anyone living in a Listed A or B home must gain approval from Historic Environment Scotland, while those residing in a Listed C residence should get in contact with their local authority. Special conditions also apply to properties located in a Conservation Area. When planning permission needs to be obtained, Bon Accord Glass will organise it on your behalf and supply your local authority with the necessary paperwork.

When it comes to styling the inside of a sunroom there are limitless possibilities – you can add underfloor heating, elegant lighting, meticulously crafted handles, tantalising tiling and wondrous wooden flooring. During the design phase, Bon Accord Glass will also inform you of what needs to be done electrically for any lighting, TVs and home entertainment systems that you plan on implementing into the space.

Lighting is a particularly vital component of any sunroom as internally and externally it helps set the tone and generate an appropriate ambience. Explore the option of incorporating an interior lighting pelmet on the inside equipped with some soft low voltage downlighters and LED downlighters or brick lights for the outside to really show off your sunroom to the world.
